According to his LinkedIn profile, Zafar joined Carillion in March 2011, initially as finance director for MENA and then as group financial controller, before becoming group finance director.
Carillion has also announced the appointments of Emma Mercer as chief financial officer and Lee Watson as chief transformation officer on secondment from Ernst & Young LLP.
Emma joined the company in 2008 and has held several senior positions, including finance director of the UK construction business, chief financial officer and senior vice-president of Carillion Canada.

Lee has been a partner at EY since 2008 and has advised on numerous transformations and restructurings for UK companies.
The current president and chief executive of Carillion Canada, Andy Jones, has been appointed chief operating officer, with the role effective from 1st October 2017.
Richard Howson, chief operating officer; Adam Green, managing director Carillion Construction Services; and Nigel Taylor, managing director Carillion Services, will leave the company on 30th September, while Shaun Carter, group strategy director, will leave by the end of the year.
